Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will meet with the hierarchy during the January transfer market

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will speak to his superiors about his plans for the January transfer window next week. The Italian manager has dodged questions about the transfer window in recent weeks as Los Blancos endure an injury crisis in defence.

The European champions don’t usually act in the January transfer market, but with Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal out for the rest of the season, and David Alaba still recovering from an injury, some have wondered if that could change. According to Sport, Ancelotti will meet with president Florentino Pérez, general manager José Ángel Sánchez and sporting director Santiago Solari before leaving on holiday to discuss his plans for the January window. Their last game of the season will be on December 22 against Sevilla at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The main issue on the table is Trent Alexander-Arnold: Liverpool refuse to consider a sale in the January transfer window and it looks like they will try to sign him for free in the summer. Ahead of the meeting, it looks like they will wait until then to take their next steps.

Real Madrid have seen their flanks exposed lately, and veteran Lucas Vázquez has not been able to offer the same defensive solidity as Carvajal. Likewise, Los Blancos are using Aurelien Tchouameni as a makeshift defender, and Ferland Mendy’s injury problems have returned in recent weeks.
