Two favorites emerge to replace Rubén Baraja in Valencia

Valencia announced it had fired coach Rubén Baraja on Monday after a last-gasp draw against Alavés this weekend. However, they are tied on points with Real Valladolid at the bottom of the table.

However, Los Che’s financial situation is a major obstacle. It is not clear how much Baraja’s dismissal cost them, but the maximum package was set at around €5 million.

In recent weeks, Valencia have reportedly been in talks with Quique Sánchez Flores about his return to the club, but those talks have clearly not come to fruition. Relevo claims that the new favorite for the job is West Bromwich Albion coach Carlos Coberán.

They are now in talks with West Brom to reduce their €2m release clause, although the Championship side are currently demanding full payment. Corberán is in talks with the Baggies to see if he can reduce that fee.

Sánchez Forés has a lot of experience in both La Liga and Valencia. Corberán was born in Valencia, but never worked at the club, initially taking a break at Villarreal. In recent years, he has done well at Huddersfield, followed by an all-too-brief spell at Olympiakos. West Brom currently sit seventh in the Championship, as they chase a play-off place.
