The president of Atlético de Madrid, Enrique Cerezo, confirmed the information that sports director Andrea Berta will not be replaced. Cerezo also addressed rumors that they would sell the club and had started to think about replacements for Diego Simeone.
Berta will leave the club next week after seven years at the club, and it appears that sporting director Carlos Bucero will take over her duties. Reports from the Spanish capital speak of a shift of power within the club towards Bucero.
“In principle not [asked about whether they will sign]because there is Carlos Bucero. But I want to highlight the good work, the great work and the great technical work of Andrea Berta during all these years at Atlético.”

Earlier this season Bucero was rumored to be one of the figures who had instigated a profile of candidates to eventually replace Diego Simeone. Something that the club has denied since then.
“A coach stays when there are good results. I always say the same thing, that the day he wants to leave. It will never be a problem for us or for the fans. His departure has never been considered. It still continues and what remains,” he told Cadena Cope, quoted by Relevo.
Cerezo was also questioned about the objects thrown by the far-right group Frente Atlético at Real Madrid player Thibaut Courtois in September.
“[Selling #AtleticoMadrid] It is not in our minds. But the word is starting to spread… We are far from the reality of the sale of the club. But very far. As far as I know no one has come [with an offer]”.

“All teams have this problem, some bigger, some smaller and some don’t have it. Unfortunately we have a problem, not a small one, and we try to solve it in our own way and as we can.”
Tensions have increased between Frente Atlético and the club, after the club banned fans from attending a match earlier in the season. The Atlético Front is famous for its neo-Nazi views, and it was from the same section that Nico Williams suffered racial abuse in April of last season.
