Barcelona have been left reeling from Saturday night’s devastating late defeat at home to Atlético Madrid. Hansi Flick’s team were far superior to their opponents for the vast majority of the matches at the Estadi Olimpic, but Alexander Sorloth’s goal in the 96th minute ensured that Los Colchoneros took the 2-1 victory.
Barcelona wasted several important scoring opportunities and had to pay for their waste. Raphinha was one of the culprits and, when speaking to the media after the game (via Sport), he assumed his responsibility as captain.
“I think we played very well. The team has behaved very well. I have the habit of saying that we do not control the result but what happens on the field. I think we played very well today.
“I, particularly, accept this defeat today. In the end I missed a clear opportunity to score and I think about five minutes later they got the tie. Then I missed a pass that led to the second goal. I leave all today’s defeat under my responsibility. Life is like that.”
Raphinha has been one of Barcelona’s standout players during the first half of the season, so he is allowed to play poorly here and there. However, it is still a very bad taste in the mouths of him and his teammates.
