At one point, it was reported from the Spanish capital that Real Madrid were on track to sign River Plate star Franco Mastantuono. However, interest in the 17-year-old appears to have cooled.
Earlier this year, Marca had reported that Mastantuono was interested in joining Los Blancos and they had reached an agreement on terms. However, the tune has changed since then, and the same outlet explains that it was the signing of his new contract until 2026 that eased interest in him.
Mastantuono, who will turn 18 next summer, signed a new deal that included a release clause of €45 million. Real Madrid not only considered it too expensive, but they did not value the teenager’s approach, nor the fact that he did not inform them of his intentions. They considered that he had negotiated in bad faith and decided to stay out of it.
Marcus Rashford’s favorite destination in Spain is Barcelona. He believes his skills fit well with the club’s style of play. Barça is informed of his situation, but at the moment they have not taken a step forward to sign him. @sport pic.twitter.com/WGwG62fI95

Something similar seems to have happened with companies like Barcelona that have also been scared by the price. Although now they could come back for him, something similar happened to AC Milan.
Los Blancos have earned a reputation for refusing to get involved in deals that do not fit the financial parameters that suit them. The key example is Leny Yoro, who was one of their top targets last summer, but his refusal to increase his offer for the French defender led to him leaving for Manchester United.
