During the 2024 summer transfer window, Atletico Madrid were active and spent heavily, bringing in players like Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher, and Robin Le Normand. However, this spending left them with insufficient funds to sign David Hancko.
Atletico had been strongly linked with Hancko throughout the summer and made multiple offers, but none were successful. The player confirmed this, explaining that although Atletico was closer to signing him than Premier League leaders Liverpool, Feyenoord did not agree to a deal due to financial differences.
Atletico could revisit a move for Hancko next summer, as they will need to strengthen their central defense for the 2025-26 season, particularly with expected departures of Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta, and Clement Lenglet’s loan from Barcelona expiring.
