Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid: “We will need fewer points to win the League”

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has sent a message of optimism in his first press conference of 2025, and has declared that his team will not need the same points as last season to win La Liga.

The Italian coach was asked about Barcelona’s drop in results, which has taken only 5 points from the last 21 available, after starting the season in good form. He admitted that he was not expecting it, but said that the total points needed to win the League would be lower this season.

“Nobody expected it, but the level of competitiveness in La Liga slightly reduces the points you need to win the title. The fact that Atlético is there also generates uncertainty and I think they will need less than 90 points to be champion.”

Ancelotti refused to give an answer about the crisis at Barcelona, which has not registered Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for the second half of the season. As for his rivals for the title, he believes that Atlético de Madrid will put up the same fight for the League title.

“As of today, they have the same possibilities. As it happened to us in November, it happened to Barcelona in December. You have a bad streak and then you become competitive like before. “Barcelona and Atlético have the same chances of competing in La Liga as us.”

Last season the Whites accumulated 95 points, one of their highest points in a while, but they could have triumphed with 86 points over Barcelona, although the equation obviously changes in recent weeks depending on how close the race is. Certainly, Real Madrid and Barcelona are behind where they were in terms of total points last year, although Atlético is now on a 12-game winning streak.
