Arsenal, Villarreal and Malaga icon Santi Cazorla has achieved a lot in the game, including the unanimous affection of all the fans he has played for, but he finally achieved one of his unfulfilled dreams on Sunday. The 39-year-old coach will turn 40 on Friday, but still in the Second Division, he scored his first goal with the Carbayones.

Oviedo beat Racing Ferrol 5-1 in Galicia on Sunday, continuing their quest for at least a play-off place this season. Cazorla has said that one of his dreams is to help Oviedo return to La Liga for the first time since 2001, and his 42nd-minute penalty gave them the lead.

Cazorla remained relatively low-key after the game, focusing on the team’s three points, but admitted it was an emotional moment before the penalty and confirmed that he had hoped to score it before he was a professional footballer.
Four days after turning 40, Santi Cazorla scored his first goal for Real Oviedo yesterday.

After three years in Qatari football at Al-Sadd, Cazorla returned to Carlos Tartiere in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer. He has played 44 games in the last two seasons, has provided 8 assists and now has a goal to his name. Oviedo, under the direction of Javi Calleja, is currently in eighth position, tied on 29 points with 5 teams to go, up to Asturian rival Sporting Gijón, in fourth place.

Given that he still has a sumptuous delivery, more than a few Arsenal fans buying tickets for their clash with Everton later this week probably wish he was still at the Emirates for a cameo.
