On the second day of the second test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, Zimbabwean middle order batsman Sean Williams demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship during the period of Rashid Khan.

In Zimbabwe’s 66th innings, bowled by Afghan star Rashid, Williams was initially declared not out by the umpire following a strong appeal for a surprise dismissal. Despite the lack of a Decision Review System (DRS) in play, Williams, who batted for 49, decided to retire after realizing he had brought the ball closer to the keeper. The gesture drew applause from Rashid and the Afghan players, underlining the spirit of cricket. Williams’ innings ended with 49 runs off 52 balls, including eight fours.

Rashid continued to show why he is Afghanistan’s leading bowler across all formats. The 26-year-old produced a masterful spell in Zimbabwe’s first innings, claiming four wickets for 94 runs in 27.3 overs at an economy rate of 3.40. His control, variations and googly skills were on display, solidifying his reputation as Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker.

Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan: the series is at stake
At the end of day 2, Afghanistan had reached 46 for the loss of three wickets.40 runs short of Zimbabwe’s first innings total.
