Real Madrid have been closing the gap on Barcelona over the past three matchdays, but their momentum has hit a snag against Athletic Club. Following Barcelona’s dominant 5-1 win over Mallorca on Tuesday, Madrid cannot make further gains midweek. To complicate matters, they now trail Athletic at San Mamés.

Inaki Williams delivered a perfectly weighted ball that forced a save from Thibaut Courtois. However, Berenguer was in the right place at the right time, tapping in from close range. The goal reflects Athletic’s impressive performance, as they’ve been the better side so far.

Real Madrid have shown improvement in recent weeks, but a loss at San Mamés would be a significant setback. With time running out, Carlo Ancelotti must find a way to rally his team for a comeback.
