Cricket Australia has revealed his 15-man squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025a tournament that will be held in a hybrid mode and will be co-organized by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates from February 19 to March 9. While the team includes a mix of seasoned campaigners and promising new faces, some notable names have been omitted from the victorious ODI World Cup 2023 squad.
Australia’s triumph in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 was historic as it marked their sixth title and cemented their position as cricketing giants. However, some key players from that championship-winning team have not been included in the Champions Trophy lineup.
Three players excluded from the Australian 2025 Champions Trophy squad after the 2023 World Cup triumph
1. Sean Abbott
Sean Abbotta 32-year-old bowling all-rounder, appeared briefly in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He only played one match against Bangladeshintervening to Mitchell Starc, where he put in a commendable performance by taking two wickets. Despite this, Abbott has not been included in the Champions Trophy squad, probably due to his recent performances. His last ODI appearance was against Pakistan in November 2024, and the selectors appear to have opted for new options in his role.
2. Cameron Green
Cameron GreenA promising 25-year-old all-round batsman, he played three matches during the 2023 World Cup, scoring 63 runs and a top score of 47. However, his bowling form was disappointing as he failed to take any wickets. A stress fracture in his lower back has made his participation even more difficult, and his last ODI match was against England in September 2024. Green’s absence from the Champions Trophy squad is a blow, but his injury status made his exclusion inevitable.
3. David Warner
David Warnerone of the standout players in the 2023 World Cup, is also absent from the 2025 Champions Trophy squad. However, his exclusion comes on his own terms as he retired from ODI cricket after the triumphant final of the Australia World Cup vs. India. Warner was instrumental in Australia’s success, amassing 535 runs in 11 matches, including two centuries. His retirement marks the end of an illustrious ODI career, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.

New faces and returning stars
The 2025 team reflects a shift toward a younger, more dynamic lineup. short matthew and Aaron Hardy have received their first calls, indicating Australia’s intention to train new talent for the future.
