Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has denied rumors that Florian Wirtz has agreed a new deal to remain at the Club. In recent weeks, German media claimed that Wirtz had agreed a deal to keep him at the club until at least 2027.
Wirtz, the apple of many eyes, including those of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, will reportedly cost any suitor €150 million to lure him out of Leverkusen. However, Carro has confirmed that a sale could be on the horizon next summer.
“I would have been happy if it had been true. The club wants him to stay in Leverkusen at least until the 2026 World Cup, so it is sensible to renew the contract,” he told Kolner Stadtanzeiger, via Sport.

However, as long as Wirtz is yet to sign and a transfer next summer remains a possibility from Bayern’s perspective, they want to remain in the race for Wirtz… pic.twitter.com/4URaF5ohBo

Carro was also asked about a possible departure for Wirtz next summer, should he not sign a new contract.
“It will be difficult, we have to be honest. “It’s not impossible, but it’s not what we want.”
However, Sky DE correspondent Florian Plettenberg confirmed that Bayern Munich are aware of positive talks with Wirtz.
Wirtz’s current contract runs until 2026, and allowing him to enter his final season on that deal would risk Leverkusen missing out on hundreds of millions of euros. The local press in Madrid has stated that the white team believes it could be their long-term response to the departure of Luka Modric.
