The former Barcelona player takes the first step towards acquiring Espanyol

Former Espanyol and Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite has been rumored on several occasions to be interested in buying Los Pericos, but he has taken a first step towards a possible move. The Danish forward currently works for Gremio in Brazil.

However, Braithwaite returned to the stands when Espanyol drew with Valencia on Wednesday night, and that has once again reignited rumors that he would be interested in buying the club. La Grada (via Sport) says Braithwaite has retained the services of a major legal firm in Spain to potentially oversee the negotiation. They are currently evaluating the investment on your behalf. He would be looking for an investment partner to close the deal with him.

Various reports estimate Braithwaite’s net worth at around €300 million, having built a property empire during his football career. The 33-year-old also has a home in Barcelona since playing for the two Catalan giants, and left Los Pericos last summer after 3-5 years in the city. Espanyol is facing serious financial problems and Chinese president Chen Yansheng is reportedly considering a sale on behalf of the Rastar Group, which has sparked widespread protests against the owners in recent seasons.
