Valencia coach Rubén Baraja has been widely praised for keeping Los Che going over the past two seasons by relying on several young players and inspiring a competitive team. However, this season Valencia has not been the same again, and that is taking its toll on the former midfielder.
His credit with sports director Miguel Ángel Corona is expiring, and although there was full support for Baraja previously, Relevo says his sources are not silent or reporting for or against him. Their Friday night trip to Real Valladolid could be decisive for their future.
One of the reasons he is still in his position is that finding a better replacement is not an easy task and previously the hierarchy has not seen a side that is not committed to their manager. His disappointing 1-0 defeat against Rayo Vallecano has the club wondering if he can change things. It would also cost Valencia €5m to fire Baraja, although it has been suggested that he would not let finances stand in his way if the club wanted him to leave.
Without a doubt, Valencia’s position is a consequence of poor management from above, but ultimately it is up to Corona to make the decision that brings them closer to safety. Valencia is currently three points from safety, one point ahead of bottom team Valladolid. In 14 games they have only managed 2 games and 13 goals.
