It looked like Real Sociedad would finally have to say goodbye to star midfielder Martín Zubimendi when Liverpool came calling last summer. After remaining focused on La Real following interest from Barcelona and Arsenal, Zubimendi also turned down the Reds.
That said, there seems to be a growing sense that Zubimendi could be on the move sooner rather than later, and that seems to be confirmed by the club’s moves as well. While each club naturally tries to put a plan in place for the departure of a key player, Relevo says the txuri-urdin have found what they believe will be their long-term replacement for Zubimendi.
Martín Zubimendi was once a rookie midfielder and Real Sociedad will not object to being a starter again if they lose him in the near future.

Youth player Jon Gorrotxategi is on loan at Mirandés this season, but he has stood out in the team that currently occupies second position in the Second Division. The 22-year-old won’t be going anywhere next summer, despite being scouted by La Liga clubs apart from returning to Zubieta.
Gorrotxategi has dictated Mirandés’ play this season and is a key piece in Alessio Lisci’s plans. This season he has started all the Second Division games and has played 98% of the available minutes in midfield, even though he had never played at that level before. Meanwhile, new information claims that Real Madrid has joined Zubimendi’s already long list of suitors.
