Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti told reporters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, that Vinicius Junior should not have received a penalty for his red card, although he noted that the insults he receives must be difficult to deal with. The Brazilian was the center of attention for the fourth consecutive press conference, with Ancelotti asked about him four times.
Vinicius has been suspended for two games for his red card against Valencia, after pushing Stole Dimitrievski in the face. They asked him about Real Madrid alleging that racial abuse had caused Vinicius’ reaction, and about his sanction, but he himself did not talk about racial abuse.
“Both he and I listen to what is happening on the field. I keep saying that being Vinicius is difficult. “The sanction is not correct.”
A constant topic of conversation in the Spanish capital has been the attempts, or failed attempts, to calm Vinicius. However, Ancelotti said he had no need to find a way to moderate Vinicius’ reactions.
“We are delighted with Vinicius in all aspects,” he explained to the press in Jeddah.
Ancelotti was also asked if it was understandable that he was tired of the attention surrounding Vinicius.
“Everyone thinks what they want. When we talk about Vinicius’ provocations we divert attention from the insults he receives,” Ancelotti remarked, before saying again that they were happy with the Brazilian.
Los Blancos face RCD Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final on Thursday at 20:00 CEST, hoping to reach the final on Sunday. When they return, they will face Celta Vigo at home in the Copa del Rey.
The Competition Committee responded to Real Madrid’s accusations about the racism that Vinicius provoked, pointing out that they did not justify their reaction. La Liga has not included racist insults in its report of the match, in which it does list 10 other songs about Real Madrid.
