Liverpool came very close to signing Martín Zubimendi last summer, and it seems they have now set their sights on another La Liga midfielder, although it would be an equally difficult deal to achieve, but for different reasons.
Zubimendi seriously considered a move to Merseyside last summer, before ultimately deciding to stay at his boyhood club Real Sociedad. Now, Anfield Watch has reported that the Premier League leaders have set their eyes on Real Betis pivot Johnny Cardoso.
Cardoso has had a very good performance at Betis since he arrived from Internacional last January, and that is why he has entered the minds of numerous clubs. One of them is Tottenham Hotspur, who can sign him for only 25 million euros at the end of the season, according to a pre-agreed clause with Betis.
Liverpool would surely have to pay more to Betis, who will surely find it difficult to retain Cardoso at the end of this summer’s transfer window. While reaching an agreement would be difficult for the Reds, the will of the player, who would surely be interested in moving to Anfield, could make things easier.
