Lamine Yamal on Barcelona’s management: “Things happened that no one understood”

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has promised that his return from injury will see an improved version of himself, despite already having a chance of being their player of the season. It also provided a window into how the team felt at the end of Xavi Hernández’s reign.

The 17-year-old gave an interview to the Barça club’s media and indicated that he is looking forward to returning. After missing around a month with a sprained ankle in November, Lamine Yamal suffered a relapse of the problem in mid-December against Leganés.

“I’m sure I’ll come back better and with more enthusiasm. When you’re away for a while you realize how much you love your job. I will return better than ever. I think it wasn’t a problem with the other injury; It was bad luck. A blow to the ankle…”

The 17-year-old was satisfied with the direction of the club and praised coach Hansi Flick for “always saying the right thing at the right time” and explaining his decisions to the players. However, the chaos that seemed to have broken out last season was also felt in the locker room.

“Many things have changed. I think it’s been a long year, counting the end of the season. The problems that there were with the coach, with the club, things happened that no one understood at all. But they are learning processes. Yes, it is true that there are more difficult moments in which you think that if you have won games your performance is valued more. But the important thing is the team.”

He also spoke about the enthusiasm of the fans, saying that it is the greatest enthusiasm they have seen at Montjuïc. Earlier this season, Lamine Yamal scored his first goal against Real Madrid. Although he recalled that the previous year he saw a goal controversially disallowed.

“I already scored last year, although they didn’t want to tell it…. Then, this season it was 0-3 that sealed the game a bit. It’s a dream, and so on. We arrived in Barcelona and we all left. We just thought about going out. My mother put the goal on her WhatsApp status 30 times. The favorite goal of the year is France’s, and the goal that everyone will remember. And the one from the Classic.”
