Joan Laporta trusts that Frenkie de Jong signs a new contract with Barcelona

Over the past few months, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been leading the club’s search for new deals for several first-team players. Pedri and Gavi are the most advanced, while the cases of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong are not far behind.

With Araujo there is a lot of confidence that he will finish signing a new contract before the season ends. The case is different for Frenkie de Jong, who until now has not shown any willingness to extend his stay in Catalonia, which will end in 2026.

However, Alfred Martínez has now reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta believes De Jong wants to stay and, as such, expects contract negotiations to go well in the coming months.

However, if De Jong (or Araujo) do not agree on a new contract before next summer’s transfer window opens, they will be put up for sale. Barcelona have no plans to allow any player to run out their current contract, so this approach will be taken.
