In a time when social media dominates almost every aspect of public and private life, legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni stands out.
Known for his calm demeanor and direct approach, Dhoni has never been one to interact much with social media platforms. His recent comments during the latest episode of Eurogrip Tires’ Tread Talks shed light on his preference to stay away from the digital spotlight, despite his unparalleled popularity.
Reflecting on his journey in cricket since his debut in 2004, Dhoni shared how his managers often encouraged him to use social media for public relations purposes. However, the former Indian captain, who led the Men in Blue to victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, believes in letting his performance speak for itself.
“I’ve never been a big fan of social media.” Dhoni said. “Throughout my career I have had different managers. I started playing in 2004 and Twitter (now X) became popular a little later, followed by Instagram. All managers would suggest some public relations activities, building this or that. But my answer was always the same: if I play good cricket, I don’t need PR.”
Dhoni’s outlook reflects his deep-rooted belief in focusing on his craft rather than seeking attention through digital platforms. Their minimal social media presence stands in stark contrast to the trends followed by most modern athletes, who often use these platforms to interact with fans, promote brands and share glimpses of their personal lives.
