Gerard Piqué wins a million euros that infuriates Barcelona’s rivals

Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué has made it a hobby to win over the fans of his rivals Real Madrid and Espanyol. Los Pericos are the latest target of his antics.

The next Liga de Reyes event will take place in January in Turin, and Piqué has started the work of promoting the event by making fun of Espanyol. Piqué appears in a video inviting Espanyol to a friendly match during the winter holidays against the Spanish international team from the Kings League, with one million euros at stake. ‘We want to play against a team of our level,’ says Piqué in the video.

The marketing stunt comes at a particularly painful time for Espanyol. They currently sit 18th in La Liga, as they fight against relegation. Their financial situation is also in dire straits, and there is already talk that their star goalkeeper Joan García or right back Omar El Hilali will be sold next summer.
