Frenkie de Jong has a key support at Barcelona despite doubts about the future

Frenkie de Jong’s two strong substitute appearances against RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid stand out not only for their good work, but also for their infrequency. Amid the dearth of positive headlines about De Jong, he still has one key person on his side.

This is Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. While the German has rarely been entrusted with a starting role, Flick believes de Jong fits his style of football perfectly. He believes that De Jong is a top-level player and intends to give him back his best sporting report. If it were up to Flick, then De Jong’s continuity at the club would not be a doubt, as he would keep him for next season.

The hierarchy in Barcelona feels a little different. A recent report characterized Sporting Director Deco as desperate for the Dutchman, and with little sign of a new contract being signed, it appears he will try to buy De Jong next summer. Without a contract in 2026, Barcelona would be willing to accept only 20 million euros for him.
