Barcelona president Joan Laporta ‘out of mind’ after Dani Olmo decision

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was visibly delighted with the decision to grant the club a court order to temporarily keep Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, shouting as he entered Jeddah’s King Abdullah Stadium. His reaction didn’t stop there.

According to multiple sources, including Cadena Cope and Cadena SER, Laporta was seen screaming, in addition to kicking and hitting sofas and chairs in the directors’ box of the stadium. Several regional presidents of the RFEF were present in the upper echelons of the stadium, as well as the newly elected president Rafael Louzan. Before that, Olmo and Víctor were hugged by Laporta in the box and stood awkwardly while Laporta screamed with joy.

Clearly partly blaming them for the decision not to register Olmo and Víctor initially, Laporta was heard shouting “cowards”, “disgraces” and “sons of bitches” in their general direction. He also allegedly approached Louzan and gave him a reprimand, although the details have not been revealed, and this last detail has been disputed. Laporta was frequently described by multiple sources as “out of it.”

Laporta’s reactions have been harshly criticized and many pointed out that he is celebrating the resolution of a problem that he himself caused. Under increasing pressure, not only from the Spanish football authorities, but also internally at the club, any small image victory that Laporta may have gained from the decision appears to be erased by his own reactions.
