Barcelona confirm a new injury to a key player as absence from the Champions League is confirmed

Barcelona know that a victory in their league match against Benfica on Tuesday would ensure their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. However, his chances of success in Lisbon have been affected by another injury to Dani Olmo.

The Catalan team confirmed this Sunday that the midfielder has suffered an overload in his calf, so he will not be available to travel to Portugal in midweek. It is also noted that his recovery period is not yet known, meaning there is a chance he could miss more upcoming matches.

Barcelona were delighted to be granted a precautionary measure to register Olmo, but as this could be revoked at any time, the last thing they needed was for him to suffer his second injury in four months.

Olmo would have had a good chance to start against Benfica, but now he gives another Barcelona player the chance to stake his claim in a crucial Champions League match.
