Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid offered the former Real Madrid forward on loan

Paris Saint-Germain have completed the biggest deal of the January transfer window so far, bringing in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli for €70 million. However, it means that one of Luis Enrique’s favorites from his days in Spain is also likely to leave the club this month.

Marco Asensio has been out of Luis Enrique’s plans in recent months, and the addition of Kvaratskhelia is another sign that he has little chance of making a big presence at PSG in the coming months. For this reason, agent Jorge Mendes has set out to find a destination for Asensio, in what will probably be a loan until the end of the season.

According to El Chiringuito, via Sport, Asensio has been offered to both Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona. Mendes has a close relationship with both clubs, and in the case of Barcelona they are also looking for a striker who ideally replaces another client of Jorge Mendes such as Ansu Fati. However, so far both have rejected the possibility of signing the Spanish international.

Barcelona have Asensio as a potential option given they want to get stronger and the fact that he can play in several positions, one of which is the false nine, as he showed for Spain, which could cover Robert Lewandowski.

Asensio seems more of the same for Barcelona, who already have several players who prefer to operate between the lines and prefer to get the ball to their feet rather than into space. Similarly, at Atlético Madrid, Diego Simeone has returned to having a four in midfield and two in attack for the most part, and although Asensio could perhaps play in attack with a teammate, the Colchoneros can reason that Ángel Correa contributes much more than the former Real Madrid player. , who left Spain two summers ago.
