Aston Villa have developed some taste for the Spanish market since the arrival of Unai Emery and sporting director Monchi, and the Villains could be back in the hunt for a central defender before long. Monchi was seen last weekend at Rayo Vallecano’s win over Celta Vigo on Friday, but then attended Sevilla’s draw against Valencia.
The reason was not only to see his old team, but also to see Loic Bade. According to Relevo, Aston Villa have taken the first steps to sign the French defender, who was signed by Monchi during his time at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán. Sevilla’s current sporting director, Víctor Orta, denied that Monchi was at Sevilla’s training ground on Tuesday, but did state that “there was a market, but no offer” for Bade.
The Nervionenses remain firm in their position that they will not accept less than 25 million euros for Bade. Last summer, Roma were rejected late in the market, as Sevilla demanded €30 million, due to their offer arriving late in the market, and Bade, happy in Andalusia, signed a new deal until 2029. He is aware that a move to Villa would be of great financial benefit to him, but will not force a move.
Bade, 24, had a brief and unsuccessful spell at Nottingham Forest before joining Sevilla, but continued his development at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, becoming one of La Liga’s best defenders. As Aston Villa attempt to sign Diego Carlos, Bade looks likely to be his replacement.
