Al-Ittihad technical secretary confirms contacts with Barcelona stars

Former Barcelona technical secretary Ramón Planes has confirmed that he has pursued some of his current squad in a bid to take them to Saudi Arabia. The current technical secretary of Al-Ittihad explained in an interview that Bayern Munich was also interested in two of its best talents.

Several names, including Robert Lewandowski, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Ansu Fati and, most notably, Raphinha, were linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. There was speculation that Barcelona could be trying to sell them, but Planes have confirmed that Al-Ittihad were interested, although not which names they were interested in.

“It is true that some of the players who have appeared in the press, we have contacted to sign them. We are looking for well-known players to make the league attractive, but also young talent.”

A good example is Las Palmas playmaker Alberto Moleiro, who has been linked with a move to the Middle East this summer.

“We negotiated to bring Moleiro from Las Palmas, who I already liked during my time at Barça,” he also told Radio Barcelona.

Planes had a successful season in Barcelona while he was in charge of recruiting, bringing in Pedri and Ronald Araujo as unknown teenagers from Las Palmas and Boston in Uruguay, respectively. At the moment the latter is being linked with a departure, but Planes believes that Araujo is happy in the Catalan capital.

“I am convinced that Pedri and Ronald Araujo are happy to be at Barça, although they are young players with potential and their names are surely on the agenda of the big clubs.”
