Wanindu Hasaranga: Fastest to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket

Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the fastest bowler to claim 300 wickets in T20 cricket. The 27-year-old achieved this feat in just 208 matches, surpassing the Australian. Andrew Tyewho reached the mark in 211 games. Hasaranga’s achievement cements his place as one of the best bowlers in the shortest format of the game.

He is now only the second Sri Lankan to achieve this milestone, following the legendary Lasith Malingawho concluded his illustrious T20 career with 390 wickets in 295 matches. Hasaranga’s career statistics are equally notable, with an astonishing average of 16.60 and an economy rate of just 6.88 in T20 cricket. His best figures of 6/9 remain one of the standout performances in the format, and he has three five-wicket hauls to his name.

Representing Desert Vipers at ILT20 2025, Hasaranga put in a winning performance against Sharjah Warriorz. His figures of 3/10 in four overs dismantled the Warriorz middle order after Mohammad Amir’s initial outburst in the power play. hasaranga fired Tim Seifert, Luke Wells and Agar Ashtonhelping to restrict the opposition to a meager 91. The Vipers comfortably chased down the target with Fakhar Zaman and Alex Hales scoring an unbeaten 95 runs in just 10 overs.

Harasaranga: a leader for Sri Lanka in T20Is

In T20 Internationals (T20I), Hasaranga is Sri Lanka’s all-time leading wicket-taker with 131 wickets and ranks sixth on the all-time T20I list. He is also ranked No. 3 in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings and is ranked 6th among T20I all-rounders.
