Vinicius, Real Madrid star, will receive a minimum sanction for a red card

Real Madrid will know how long Vinicius Junior will be suspended for today, but the Brazilian is expected to escape with the minimum possible sanction from the Competition Committee.

The Brazilian was involved during the last half hour of the Copa del Rey match against Deportiva Minera, as the RFEF did not meet on Monday, but will impose a sanction on Tuesday. Vinicius will face a ban of between two and four matches for touching Stole Dimitrievski’s face, but it appears that the Competition Committee will not consider his protests following the red card.

According to Cadena SER, Vinicius will receive the minimum sanction of two games for his actions on Friday night, which would rule him out of the Spanish Super Cup. Los Blancos will play RCD Mallorca on Thursday and face either Athletic Club or Barcelona in the final on Sunday, but Carlo Ancelotti has said they will appeal any sanctions. If Real Madrid does not advance from the semi-finals, Vinicius would miss the league clash against Las Palmas the following week.

The issue has caused some controversy, depending on which side of the divide people stand on. While many in the Spanish capital feel that Vinicius was harshly sent off, or at least Ancelotti, others have pointed out that in the match report the incident is described as a live play, when in fact the ball was dead in time. If he had registered in this way, Vinicius would face a sanction of between 4 and 12 games.
