Valencia prepares for the clash against Real Madrid without two key players

Valencia prepares for its debut under new coach Carlos Corberán on Friday on the most important stage, with the arrival of Real Madrid to Mestalla. It is an occasion that is often celebrated, but there is currently little party mood in Valencia.

Los Che are currently in 19th place, tied on points with Real Valladolid and four points away from safety. Real Madrid have struggled at Mestalla more than any other visiting stadium in the last decade, with just two wins in that period, but Corberán’s chances of inspiring a result look slim.

Especially considering that star defender and captain José Gaya is struggling to return to the game. After a muscle problem almost a month ago, Gaya has been working double sessions to return, but two days before the game, he only completed part of the training, explains MD, together with Mouctar Diakhaby. Meanwhile, Giorgi Mamardashvili also trained individually before the match, meaning Stole Dimitrievski could be in goal for Valencia.

Real Madrid may or may not have David Alaba back in the team for the first time, but aside from long-term injuries to Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, he comes into the game in good health. There could also be a strange atmosphere at Mestalla, with Valencia fans hoping to organize a protest against owner Peter Lim, asking fans not to attend the match.
