Valencia agree deal for new right-back to arrive in January

Valencia have been searching for a right-back since Thierry Correia was ruled out for the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury, and it seems they’ve found their target.

Ivan Fresneda, the former Real Valladolid right-back, has not made the desired impact at Sporting CP and may be loaned out to gain more playing time. Relevo reports that Valencia and Sporting CP have reached an agreement for a loan deal until the end of the season. Some details still need to be finalized, such as whether a buy option will be included. Valencia are open to a clause, but Sporting CP is reluctant to accept one that could result in a financial loss, meaning any option would need to start at €7.5m.

The main hurdle to the move is Sporting CP’s new manager, Joao Pereira, who has just replaced Ruben Amorim. Pereira wants to evaluate his squad before giving the green light.

Currently, Valencia’s right-back options are limited to Dmitri Foulquier, with no other natural players in that position. Fresneda, who has been a bit-part player since his arrival in Lisbon, has made just seven appearances this season, totaling 203 minutes, with only two starts.
