The newly elected president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzan, has named his board of directors for the next term, made up of no less than 31 members.
That considerable number includes the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, the president of the Spanish Players Union (AFE), David Aganzo, and the president of League F, Beatriz Álvarez. Louzan also hired former Sports Secretary María José Rienda, in four moves that are seen as an attempt to repair relations with the other major power structures in Spanish football. The Ministry of Culture and Sports (CSD) is reportedly not very interested in his appointment, believing that his previous conviction for malfeasance should prevent him from working, but Rienda also has a relationship with the government.
Relevo also says that it is the first time that the board will be made up of 50% women (15), a big step forward in terms of seeing women in senior management positions. Sergio Merchán will be his second in command.
The CSD and Louzan are awaiting the results of the judicial process regarding his previous conviction. As a result, they are seeking a seven-year ban from taking office, with the outcome of the case due in February.
