Second report claims that Real Madrid are seeking targets from Liverpool and Manchester City

Suitors are something that Real Sociedad lynchpin Martín Zubimendi has never lacked, and in each of the last three summers, he has been cited as the main target of one of the best teams in Europe. Barcelona were the first to pursue him with intent, but now their rivals, Real Madrid, are considering a move for the Basque midfielder.

Liverpool did everything they could to persuade Zubimendi to leave Donostia-San Sebastián last summer and were willing to pay his €60m release clause, with the Euro 2024 winner eventually pulling out of the deal. The Reds are expected to return for him this summer, and Manchester City have also been linked with him as a possible alternative to Rodri Hernandez.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid feel they made a mistake by not replacing Toni Kroos last summer, and Zubimendi perfectly fits the bill to do just that. One of his other considerations for next summer is to recruit more Spanish players, and Zubimendi, like Rodri, also fits that bill. Relevo is now the second source in as many weeks to report that Los Blancos could sign Zubimendi.

Arsenal have also pursued Zubimendi in the past, with the 25-year-old noted to be attracted to the idea of a move to the Premier League. Although as a general rule Real Madrid does not have to sell the opportunity to sign for the club, although Zubimendi has not been the general rule in terms of how he has approached his career.
