Ronald Araujo to travel with Barcelona for clash against Borussia Dortmund as return nears

Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo has been back training with the group for around two weeks and is approaching his return to action following hamstring surgery. He is scheduled to be part of their expedition to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Araujo will be part of the Champions League squad, according to Sport, but is unlikely to feature in their match at Signal Iduna Park. Even without receiving the medical green light, he could achieve it on German soil, but it is not clear if he will achieve it before the game. Barcelona will remain in Dortmund on Wednesday night, and will train there on Thursday morning, so Araujo’s presence is partly logistical, allowing him to continue training with the team.

The 25-year-old is likely to return against Leganés on Sunday night, when he will begin a gradual introduction into the team again, probably from the bench to start. Manager Hansi Flick will no doubt be delighted to have Araujo back and hopefully he will be fit in January. So far, Íñigo Martínez and Pau Cubarsi have played virtually the entire campaign, with Eric García recently available as a full alternative and Sergi Domínguez playing here and there.
