Real Madrid have finally given significant minutes to a youth product this season, with centre-back Raúl Asencio threatening to be the first La Fábrica product to break into the first team since Lucas Vázquez or Dani Carvajal. The whites intend to renew his contract.
Initial contacts have already been made with their agents, Relevo says, but no new deals are expected soon. Talks will continue from 2025 and are likely to conclude only towards the end of this season, which is standard practice for their academy talents. Real Madrid are delighted with their progress and president Florentino Pérez in particular likes what he has seen.
He will not be part of the Castilla squad next season, that’s for sure. Asencio could earn a living in the senior team next season, or he could be sold, with a percentage of selling fee included, like Rafa Marín, Nico Paz or Sergio Arribas recently. Asencio is also not in a hurry to renew and, regardless of the interest that comes, he will give priority to the whites. His current contract expires in 2026.
Recent history would suggest that Real Madrid are looking for a healthy profit for Asencio rather than a long-term future in the first team. It won’t help that Carlo Ancelotti tends to favor more experienced options over younger players. Likewise, Real Madrid has an increasingly smaller number of players who have gone through its youth system and the Spanish quarries, and is aware that it needs a minimum for the European competition squads.
