Real Madrid take big step towards Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies

Real Madrid appeared to be on the defensive in the race to sign Alphonso Davies, but the Canadian left-back’s long transfer saga has taken another turn. After talks in Germany between Bayern Munich and his agent last week in Bavaria, it seems that the door has been opened for Los Blancos.

According to Marca, Real Madrid are much closer to getting the green light for Davies than was thought last week. Despite ongoing negotiations with Bayern, an agreement has yet to be reached, increasing optimism in the Spanish capital. After having agreed terms with Real Madrid almost a year ago, what gives the whites greater optimism is that Davies’ agent, Nedal Huoseh, has given the order to the lawyers to draw up the contracts, putting in writing what that they had agreed.

Naturally, Davies has yet to sign said contract, but Real Madrid take this as a positive sign. They will not change their offer, but Bayern have struggled to get closer to Davies’ demands, and their latest offer places the left-back behind only Harry Kane on their pay scale. Real Madrid trusts that his desire to play for Real Madrid will end up tipping the balance in his favor.

Of their current options, Fran Garcia does not appear to be trusted for the biggest games, while Ferland Mendy has seen a dramatic drop in form from last season, complete with fresh injury problems. Davies, along with Trent Alexander-Arnold, is their top target to make a change to their defensive line next summer.
