Just two months ago, it looked like Real Madrid might be looking for a new coach during the season for the first time in six years. However, Carlo Ancelotti has changed things and has Los Blancos at the top of the table, but that has not altered his plans for his position.
Ancelotti has a contract until 2026 and, if things go well in the second half of the season, he will remain for next season. If results had not improved in November (he was required to beat Girona or face dismissal, says Relevo), then Los Blancos intended to replace him with Santiago Solari until the end of the season. Then they would have pursued Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso this summer.
However, Alonso is still in the picture to replace Ancelotti. The same outlet reports that Alonso is happy to wait until Ancelotti leaves to take over. The Basque coach is happy at Leverkusen, and would also fulfill his contract until 2026, when the white team will call him. He is in no rush to take charge. If Ancelotti wins the Champions League or La Liga this season, he will seal his deal, and if not, Alonso will take over.
After Alonso rejected offers from Liverpool and Bayern Munich to take over last summer, it seemed set that he would seek the Real Madrid job at some point. Alonso has been successful in both of his senior coaching roles at Leverkusen and Real Sociedad B, but began his coaching career as an under-19 coach at Real Madrid.
