Florentino Pérez presented his candidacy this weekend to be re-elected president of Real Madrid and it turns out that he has been successful in his attempt to remain at the helm of the club he has led for 22 of the last 25 years.
Real Madrid confirmed on Friday that Pérez had presented his candidacy and in the end he was the only one who did so, so no elections were necessary. For this reason, he has been re-elected president of the club until 2029, when he will turn 83 years old.

Pérez was first appointed president of Real Madrid in 2000 and held the position until 2006, when he was succeeded by Ramón Calderón. However, three years later he resumed the position and has held it ever since.
Throughout his two spells, Pérez has led Real Madrid to become the biggest club in the world and has spearheaded the signings of several big names, especially in recent years, with players such as Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham heading to Santiago Bernabéu. although more could be on the way later this year.
It is not surprising that Pérez ran unopposed in this last election, since anyone who ran against him would almost certainly have lost anyway. He is undoubtedly the most popular person within Real Madrid, and when he inevitably moves on (whether in 2029 or later), he will surely do so on his own terms.
Until then, Real Madrid will be able to continue enjoying having him as president. He has big plans for the club over the next four years, which will include keeping them at the top of world football. But even if that doesn’t happen, he will remain a club legend.
