Few players have signed nine-and-a-half-year contracts, and it is even rarer for a top player to commit his future to a club for so long. However, Manchester City has achieved it with Erling Haaland, who today signed an agreement until 2034.
That would seem to tie him down for much of his career, and Marca admits he is currently completely focused on winning trophies with Manchester City. It doesn’t hurt that he earns more than half a million euros per week and 3.5 thousand euros per hour.
However, they do say that the ‘fine print’ of his contract means Haaland still has his future in his hands. While they explicitly state that there is no buyout clause in the contract, Haaland’s agents have come up with a ‘formula’ for him to leave the club, if he so wishes and City agree. They point out that it is only valid for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and even then it would include a high price.
Given the vagueness of the wording, it is difficult to assess what that formula might be. But it would be a surprise if agent Rafaela Pimienta had given up control of her client’s future for such a long period without an exit route. Previously in interviews, Pimienta has commented that her goal is to guarantee that her clients are masters of their own destiny.
