Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke has shared his opinion on who he thinks holds the title of best fast bowler in all three formats of the game. In a recent talk, Clarke gave his opinion on what makes a fast bowler stand out, particularly when playing in different formats such as Test Cricket, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is.
Michael Clarke picks the best fast bowler in all formats
Clarke, after reflecting on a series of quick bowling performances, named the Indian player jasprit bumrah as the best fast bowler he has seen in all formats. Clarke praised Bumrah’s ability to perform consistently well in all conditions, something he believes sets him apart from other great fast bowlers.
The former Australian captain went on to explain that Bumrah’s remarkable versatility in various conditions and formats, along with his match-winning abilities, have made him stand out. Clarke emphasized that Bumrah’s prowess across formats, be it his lethal yorkers in T20 or his ability to bowl long spells in Tests, is what makes him a freak of nature.
“What I thought about Bumrah, after the series was over and I was sitting and thinking about his performances, I actually think he is the best fast bowler of all time in all three formats.” Clarke told ESPN’s Around The Wicket.

Clarke reflects on the greats of bygone eras
Clarke acknowledged the tremendous impact of legendary fast bowlers of bygone eras, mentioning the likes of Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath. However, he pointed out that these legends did not get the opportunity to play T20 cricket, which is a vital part of the game today. While his contributions were immense, Clarke believes Bumrah’s ability to excel in all three formats makes him stand out.
“I know a lot of great fast bowlers – Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath – who couldn’t play T20 cricket, so I’m not talking about those guys, but as far as anyone who has played all three formats, I think they could. being the best of all. In fact, he is so good in any condition, that is what makes him great; Any condition, any format, this guy is a freak.” Clarke added.
