Real Madrid lost 1-1 in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona in Jeddah.
Los Blancos took a fifth-minute lead at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium when Kylian Mbappé sprinted away from La Blaugrana’s backline to fire home.
Mbappe’s goal came slightly against the pace of the game early in Saudi Arabia when Thibaut Courtois brilliantly deflected a shot from Lamine Yamal, before the Belgian made an even better save from Raphinha’s header.
Those chances proved to be warning signs for Real Madrid, who Courtois kept busy before Lamine Yamal equalized in the 22nd minute.
The Spanish star was given too much space to come in from the right, as he slid into the Real Madrid box, to pass Courtois.
