Juventus awaits Barcelona’s response to Ronald Araujo’s offer

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is out of contract in 18 months, and after the first real attempts to extract him last January, Juventus are now hotly pursuing him. The 25-year-old recently returned to action after five months out due to injury.

The Bianconeri are desperate to strengthen their defensive line after losing Juan Cabal, Bremer and Danilo to injuries and transfers, with Araujo their top target after Feyenoord’s David Hancko rejected a move in January. Gianluca di Marzio has told Sky Sports Italia, as published by MD, that Juventus sporting director Cristian Giuntoli hopes to advance negotiations as soon as possible. They are waiting for a response from Barcelona and also considering the possibility of signing Antonio Silva from Benfica.

This greatly contradicts the reports coming out of Spain. While Araujo played coy about his contract situation over the weekend, saying “we’ll see” about a renewal, Barcelona have doubts about his desire to leave. The Blaugrana consider that negotiating behind their backs with Juventus is out of place and until yesterday they had not received any offer for him.
