Atlético Madrid coach Diego Simeone has made no secret of his disdain for Real Madrid’s controversial victory over Celta Vigo, pointing out that Los Blancos getting favorable decisions is the status quo.
The Whites qualified for the Copa del Rey quarter-finals with a 5-2 victory over Celta Vigo, but the first goal of the match came in highly questionable circumstances. Kylian Mbappé scored the goal in the same play in which Celta Vigo were not awarded what they thought was a clear penalty. The referee was not called to view the incident on the VAR screen.
Simeone was asked for his opinion on the matter.
“I didn’t watch yesterday’s game. They told me episodes that happened as they have been happening for a hundred years. I don’t know what surprises you…”
Diego Simeone: “Regarding Lemar, I am very happy because he always shows what it means to start over. The injuries didn’t stop him, but I’m very happy because we need him. Let’s see if we can help you help us.” pic.twitter.com/BZcMBNSBNJ

With Atlético at the top of the table, Simeone was asked if his “match by match” approach could be considered “unambitious”. “Yes, of course, it’s not very ambitious,” he said with a laugh.
Simeone was also asked about the possibility of signing a deal in January, to which he responded to Diario AS simply “Leganés.” He was a little more forthcoming about the future of left back Reinildo Mandava.
“We haven’t talked about that, as you mentioned, talking to Miguel [Angel Gil Marin] and [Carlos] Hornbill. In the same way as Javi [Galan] He didn’t have minutes and didn’t play. Today it is Reinildo’s turn to go through this stage, who is always prepared for anything they ask of him. He knows what this situation is and is 100% committed to the team. I’m calm. I know that he is a boy who will undoubtedly help us when we need it.”
