Harleen Deol’s century propels India to ODI series win over West Indies; Hayley Matthews’ ton is in vain

indian women recorded a resounding 115-run victory over West Indian Women in the second ODI of the ICC Championship, winning the series 2-0 with one match remaining. Harleen Deol’s brilliant century proved instrumental in India’s resounding victory.

India’s dominant batting performance

By winning the toss and electing to bat, India posted a formidable total of 358/5 in their 50 overs. The foundation was laid by openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawalwho added 110 runs for the first wicket. Mandhana scored a spirited 53 off 47 balls, with seven fours and two sixes, while Pratika Rawal’s steady 76 off 86 balls included 10 fours and a six.

The star of the innings, however, was Harleen Deol. Coming in at number three, he displayed exceptional strokeplay, amassing 115 runs off 103 balls with 16 boundaries. Her partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues, who contributed a quick 52 off 36 balls, added crucial impetus to India’s innings. Brief cameos by Harmanpreet Kaur (22) and Richa Ghosh (13) ensured India finished on top.

The West Indies bowlers struggled to contain the Indian batsmen. Deandra Dottin, Afy Fletcher, Zaida James and Qiana Joseph each managed to take a wicket but were largely ineffective against the Indian attack.

Hayley Matthews’ only battle

Chasing a daunting target of 359, West Indies were heavily reliant on captain Hayley Matthews to anchor their innings. Matthews gamely bowled 106 off 109 balls, combined with 13 fours, but found little support from his teammates.

Early wickets set the visitors back as Qiana Joseph (15) and Nerissa Crafton (13) were dismissed cheaply. Shemaine Campbelle chipped in with 38 runs and Zaida James added 25, but a lack of substantial partnerships hurt the chase. A lower order contribution from Afy Fletcher (22) offered brief resistance, but the The team conceded 243 in 46.2 overs..

The Indian bowlers were clinical in defending their total. Priya Mishra was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 49 runs in her 9.2 overs. Titas Sadhu, Deepti Sharma and Pratika Rawal took two wickets each, while Renuka Thakur contributed one wicket each. The disciplined bowling effort ensured that West Indies never got close to the target.

Player of the match

For her century of victories, Harleen Deol was named Player of the Match. His composure and ability to accelerate when necessary were instrumental in India’s impressive total.

The third and final ODI is scheduled for Friday, December 27 at the Reliance Stadium. With the series now in the bag, India will look to make a clean sweep, while the West Indies will look to salvage some pride.
