Barcelona manager Hansi Flick praised the work done by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid ahead of the weekend clash.
Both face each other in Catalonia in a crucial end-of-year match in which Flick’s pupils only surpass Los Rojiblancos on goal difference at the top of the table.
Their respective runs of form are polar opposites: Barcelona have won just one of their last six league games and Atlético are on a run of 11 consecutive victories in all competitions.
Flick will once again be absent from the Barcelona bench as he serves the second match of a two-match ban, but he will be admiring Simeone from afar tomorrow night.
“Being on this winning streak is incredible. They are doing a great job and I respect them a lot. I love Simeone’s personality and his emotion,” according to Mundo Deportivo.
“You can see that the team is like him. But that doesn’t change anything, we want to win tomorrow.”
The two coaches had never faced each other before, as Simeone’s six games against Bayern Munich came before Flick’s arrival in 2019.
Barcelona have an excellent home record against Atlético Madrid in La Liga, unbeaten in their last 18 games, with the last away victory coming in 2006.
