Gulf in finance between the League and the Premier League was exposed with the January statistics

It is no secret that the League has quite strict financial rules. The matter has divided opinion in recent years, but ultimately, they are here to stay. However, it means that clubs are less likely to splash, especially in the middle of the season.

That was the case of the 2025 winter transfer window, which closes on Monday night. The league clubs did a good amount of businesses, but not spent a lot of money; Instead, many loan agreements were sought, such as Arthur Melo to Girona and Tajon Buchanan for Villarreal.

In the end, the sport says that 26 million euros were spent among the 20 club clubs during the winter transfer window. Real Betis were the greatest taxpayers to this, since they spent half (€ 13 million) to bring Cucho Hernández of the Columbus team on the side of the MLS, and that operation concluded the day of the deadline.

Cucho Hernandez was the League’s Biggest January Mean

In comparison, this is a very small amount compared to the other upper leagues in Europe. The Premier League teams went to 475 million euros, while the series teams spent 228 million euros, and those in Ligue 1 splashed for a sum of 200 million euros.

Surprisingly, the 26 million euros spent by the league clubs placed them in 16 of the leagues with the largest amount of money spent during the winter transfer window. The best leagues in Belgium, Russia, China, Mexico and Argentina surpassed them, and also the teams in the second level of German football (2. Bundesliga).

It is worth noting that none of the Real Madrid, Barcelona or Atlético de Madrid spent a single penny during the transfer window, that each of these clubs chooses to maintain faith in their respective squadrons for the second half of the season. From this information, it can be said that there is much less money available outside the first three of the League, and although that makes it difficult to compete financially, they do a good job in the countryside when they are in the European competition.
