Barcelona are in their third consecutive Spanish Super Cup final after an impressive 2-0 victory over Athletic Club in their semi-final in Jeddah.
Hansi Flick opted to start Gavi, who was in the lineup for the fourth time since returning from an 11-month injury layoff. His inclusion paid off, as he scored the first goal in the 17th minute, finishing from close range after a cut by Alejandro Balde.
Barcelona had several great chances to double the lead in the first half, but poor finishing from Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski meant the score remained 1-0 at half-time. However, the second goal came eight minutes into the second half, when Lamine Yamal scored on his return to the starting lineup after three weeks out.
In the end, those two goals were enough for Barcelona, who will face either Real Madrid or Mallorca in Sunday’s final. Flick will also be able to count on Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor for that match after the Higher Sports Council (CSD) issued a precautionary measure hours before the semifinal.
