captain of england heather knight remains optimistic despite the challenging road ahead after Australia completed a clean sweep of the ODIs at Women’s Ashes 2025.
The 86-run victory in Hobart has given the Australians a 6-0 lead in the multi-format series. To win back the Ashes, England must win the next three T20Is and the one-off Test.
“It’s going to be difficult” Knight admitted in a recent interview. “But we’ve been here before. The last Ashes series was 6-0 and we were able to turn things around. “We are still alive, we are still in this and we have to keep believing.”
Missed opportunities in Hobart ODI
England put up their best performance of the series in Hobart, initially reducing Australia to 59 for four. However, they failed at critical moments with both bat and ball, allowing the hosts to set a daunting total. Despite parity midway through their chase, England failed to capitalize.
“We need to maintain composure” Knight pointed out. “In those key moments when the game was on the line, Australia have managed to cope very well, while we have not been able to seize the moment and gain any advantage.”

Format change offers hope
England’s preparations for the upcoming stages of the Ashes include a strategic focus on player fitness.
kate cruzwho was close to playing in Hobart, was rested so as not to aggravate his back injury. Cross will now focus on training for the Melbourne Test, which begins on January 30, along with Tammy Beaumont and Ryana MacDonald-Gay. Meanwhile, the rest of the team will focus their attention on the T20Is.
Knight is optimistic about the change in format and considers T20 cricket to be one of England’s strengths. “Having a change of format will be very good for us” she said. “T20 cricket is one of our best formats and that little reset will do us good.”
With renewed focus and faith, England will look to change their fortunes in the T20I leg of the series, keeping their hopes of winning the Ashes alive.
