The round of 16 phase of the 2024-25 Copa del Rey continued on Wednesday with four more ties: Atlético de Madrid, Getafe and Leganés played against lower league rivals, while Barcelona hosted Real Betis in the only tie exclusively from La League.
Elche 0-4 Atletico Madrid
There are now 15 wins in a row in all competitions for Atlético de Madrid, which was too good for Elche. Alexander Sorloth scored twice in the first half for Diego Simeone’s team, before Rodrigo Riquelme and Julián Álvarez added more goals in the second half.
Pontevedra 0-1 Getafe
Álvaro Rodríguez was the hero and the villain for Getafe in the tie, as he scored after two minutes before being sent off later in the first half. Diego Rico was also sent off at the end, as the Azulones finished the match with 9 men (and 16% possession), but despite this they held on until they reached the quarterfinals.
Almeria 2-3 Leganés
Leganés achieved a fantastic victory over the Second Division leader, Almería, in their round of 16 tie. They took the lead from the start thanks to Adri Altimira, before Luis Suárez and Lázaro put the hosts ahead 2-1. However, the La Liga team scored through Miguel de la Fuente and Diego García to finally secure passage to the next round.
