Barcelona’s appeal for Hansi Flick’s sanction rejected

Barcelona will be without coach Hansi Flick for their final two games of the year after the Appeals Committee upheld their red card ban.

The German coach was sent off against Real Betis for shouting and gesticulating at the referees, which Barcelona appealed. Flick claims he was yelling at himself and his own players, and made no complaints to the referees.

That case was brought to the Committee by Barcelona, but there has been no reduction in his sanction, according to Sport. They say video evidence does not prove the referee’s report is wrong and point out that Flick complained after his red card.

It is certainly unusual to include this last detail, since events after the matter normally only influence the case of a new suspension. However, it is a hard blow for the Blaugrana, who will miss him against Leganés and their key match against Atlético de Madrid on December 21.
